This Year's Model Updates:

The Monte Carlo receives significant revisions for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the car's styling with new front-end styling and taillights. Inside, the Monte Carlo benefits from a redesigned instrument panel, improved audio systems, more comfortable seats and standard front side airbags. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Chevy car: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Spacious interior, low sticker price, powerful engine choices.
Cons:
  • Vague steering detracts from handling, off-the-line torque steer in the SS.

  • love my first month! - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Ive been driving my ltz for a month now and Im really enjoying driving this car. The car only has 60.000 km so no problems yet!. Ive always had gm cars and Im a gm lover! The car handles great, fuel economy Im impressed. This car has a 3.9 engine so if you have a heavy foot well its normal that the car will cost you !. But at normal driving condition you will be impressed!. The downside of this car is the sound system I own a g5 2007 the 2 cars has the same sound system, I expected more from the ltz! This car performs at its best when you want to pass a car. The acceleration is at its best after 35 km. For those people that do not like a gm product you should try this car !

I purchased my Monte new while I worked at the dealership. The first 50,000 miles had very few problems with it. The only really thing was that I blew a power steering line and the junk tire pressure sensors. I had the keyless entry system (which reads the tire pressure sensors) replaced twice. And numerous amounts of sensors replaced before it fixed itself. After 50,000 the GMPP warranty paid for itself. Had control arms, wheel bearings, and tie rods replaced all at once. Had oil rings in the engine seize and had 8 new pistons and rings installed. Trust me I take care of this car! Nothing but 92+ octane and synthetic oil every 5,000 miles. All maintanence performed regularly.

  • Every Day is Talladega, Part II - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Thus far, the new Monte has made trips to Chicago and the Quad Cities, and combined with the day to day driving to and from work, there is no doubt in my (former) military mind that this is the best car I have ever driven. The 3.9 6 cyl has enough power to get me noticed by the Iowa Patrol (hasnt happened yet), yet seems to be keeping the MPG at around 20 city (although the instant economy feature has shown me mileage around 30+ on occasion). The heated leather and remote start feature makes cold days nothing to fear, and its a nice change to come into a heated car on the way home from work. No, its not a Mustang or Corvette, but the lines and performance thus far belie NEXTEL Cup.

  • SS Muscle is Back - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I am very pleased by the performance and handling of this FWD "muscle car" from GM. The ride is very civilized, however the seats are not well bolstered. GM removed about $1500 worth of optional equipment, such as the guage package, leather shifter and boot, and the passenger power seat (to mention a few). I found my 2003 SS to be more comfortable. If they had just left the creature comforts alone, and just added the V-8 and changed the front clip styling, they would have hit a home run. I get between 30 and 35 mpg on the highway/9-12 mpg in city driving. It is touchy keeping the DOD in 4 cyl. mode, but that does improve fuel economy by about 20%.

The vehicle is responsive, solid with no squeaks. It has a very good turning radius. And I feel that it should be listed in the top ten list of cars with high quality. This is my fourth Monte Carlo and the most inproved. And it will run on ethanol or gasoline.

  • Second guessing - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I really liked my car for the first 3000 miles or so but it suddenly became sluggish, I now find myself competing with 4 cylinder engines with a slight tapping sound under the hood while at a stand still. Also a quart of oil has been burned now at 3500 miles. I am really aggravated by how much a car can change over so few miles. Reminds me of that freind that stabbed you in the back. My 2001 Acura was much more potent than this vehicle with less horsepower and displacement and more weight. Please explain this one. Gas mileage also stinks on this new car. I went from a 2004 Chevy Colorado with the 3.5 litre 5cyl to this one. Truly disappointed and thought it would be better!

So far, I love this car! It has classy style, power, and safety features rolled into one fantastic dream car. Everything you could want in a car, except for DVD or navigation system, but OnStar and hands-free phone is cool.
